Our Prevention Services include programming focused on keeping the youth out of the juvenile justice system and assisting youth in maintaining strong family, community, and school relationships.


What we can offer you:
Sandcastles® is a nationally recognized program to help children cope with their parents’ divorce. Children participate in small, interactive groups with others their own age.  The groups are arranged according to age: 6-8, 9-12, and 13-17 years old.  To make the Sandcastles experience comfortable and enriching, trained facilitators lead role playing, videos, plays, group discussions, and workbook activities.

The Strengthening Families Program (SFP 12-16) is an evidence-based prevention program for parents and children ages 12-16 in higher risk families.  SFP consists of parenting skills, children’s life skills, and family skills training courses taught together in seven, three hour group sessions preceded by a meal that includes informal family practice time and group leader coaching.

The Strengthening Families program (SFP 10-14) is designed for parents and their children ages 10-14 (or 5th through 8th grade).  The program uses family systems, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to increase resilience and reduce risk factors for behavioral, emotional, academic, and social problems.

The Strengthening Families program (SFP 7-17) at home DVD version is a 10-part entertaining series of parenting and youth skills for families to watch together in their own homes.  The DVD session has 10 thirty-minute lessons, plus a short introductory lesson on the benefits of the SFP and brain development.

TeenCare is a prevention service including a 24-hour hotline and short term shelter/crisis intervention designed to serve youth. Our mission is to provide runaways, throwaways, and youth in crisis with safe shelter, assist in resolving family conflicts, and to reunite families whenever possible. The program offers Temporary Shelter, Walk-in Counseling/Advocacy, Outreach, and a 24/7 Confidential Hotline.
