Meet Emily
How long have you worked at Positive Alternatives?
2021
Where are you from?
Eau Claire, Wisconsin
What drew you to working in this field?
I have always had a passion for helping people. Previously, I have worked with adults and children with disabilities in group home settings, volunteering, as well as a job coach which led me in the direction of helping people in other ways. I like to be hands-on and engaged with those I work with, and I find that my position at Positive Alternatives is a great fit.
What is your educational background?
I attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison and received my bachelor's degrees in psychology and human development and family studies. I have recently gone back to school to further my education. What is your favorite mentoring activity?
One of my favorite mentoring activities is making food together! I'm known for doing food challenges liked Chopped with items in the home or challenges like spending less than $10 on a balanced meal.
What is your favorite thing about being a mentor?
I love the relationships that we build with the kids we work with. It is amazing to see the improvements in their goals throughout mentoring.

Furry Friends
We have a packed house full of pets, including six cats and three dogs. Three of the cats are personally mine: Nova, Scotia (Scottie), and Stubby. Nova and Scottie are sister dilute calico mixes that I adopted, and Stubby is what I lovingly call my "Garbage Cat."
I actually rescued Stubby off the streets with a mentoring client of mine!
