Community Based Services

Community Based Services works with youth, young adults ages 18-24, and families to improve family, community, and school relationships by developing the social, emotional, and developmental skills needed to flourish. The program offers supervised visitation and skill building and support services that are accredited through the Council on Accreditation (COA) and are guided by our foundational principles of Motivational Interviewing and Trauma Informed Care. In conjunction with Comprehensive Community Services (CCS), staff are trained in the Wraparound approach to assist in the stabilization of mental health challenges and behaviors in the home, school, and community. Our team promotes the skill development to help youth and families grow in their independence and reach their goals.

Meet Our Team

Skill Building & Support

Our program is individualized for youth and young adults to meet one-on-one with a member of our team, specifically designed to tailor our approach and activities to meet their needs. Youth are referred for a variety of reasons, including mental health, family or emotional support, and delinquency, and may be funded through CCS or the local Human Services Department. Together, youth and staff participate in activities that promote healthy independent living and coping skills, pro-social behaviors, and problem-solving skills and encourage positive community involvement. We focus on the family unit as a whole and strive to support relationships between the youth and their natural supports.

Supervised Visitations

Our team supervises visits between non-custodial parent(s) and their children to provide a safe and structured environment for families to maintain and strengthen relationships while children are placed in out-of-home care. Services include transportation when needed, attendance at team meetings, and a documented summary of observations and interactions following each visit. We accept families from either a county referral or on a private pay basis, and visits may be on-site, in the community or in the family’s home. We promote a transition from supervised visitation to unsupervised, all with a primary goal of child well-being and reunification.

Comprehensive Community Services

Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) is a recovery focused, integrated behavioral health program for adults and children with mental illness and/or substance use disorders.  Positive Alternatives offers services to youth and young adults ages 18-24 through the CCS service array of Individual Skill Development and Enhancement.  Youth are paired with a staff member who works with them individually on specific goals outlined in their recovery plan.  Through activities tailored to each client’s specific needs, staff model and assist youth in enhancing healthy lifestyle skills, including trauma recovery and resiliency development. The CCS program implements the Wraparound and teaming approach to best meet the needs of each individual.

Blessing Box

The Blessing Box, located on the property of Oak Ridge Lutheran Brethren Church in Menomonie, was established to provide our local, rural community and its members with resources they may need to flourish and survive, such as non-perishable food, personal hygiene items, household products, small clothing, and first aid related items. All items placed in the Blessing Box will be accessible to anyone in need, regardless of their age, race, status, background, religion, sexual orientation, and so forth. The Blessing Box is also a way to engage and involve local community members and establishments to actively participate in helping to keep it successful and stocked.
